About the role | Ko te mahi nei
As a Building Officer in our Development and Regulatory Group, you’ll play a vital role in upholding the quality and safety of building work in Palmerston North. You will review and process building consent applications, conduct inspections, and provide expert advice to a variety of stakeholders, ensuring compliance with the Building Act. Your work will help maintain safety standards and reduce potential risks for the Council and community.
This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
In this role your focus will be:
Reviewing and processing building consent applications to meet Council and statutory guidelines.
Conducting site inspections to verify compliance with building regulations and standards.
Investigating and responding to queries and complaints professionally and efficiently.
Providing expert advice on building compliance to developers, tradespeople, and the public.
Keeping up-to-date with changes in legislation and codes of practice.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
We’re seeking a detail-oriented professional with a solid understanding of building regulations and standards. You’re comfortable working independently, committed to providing excellent customer service, and have a high level of integrity when handling sensitive information. A reasonable level of physical fitness is also essential, as site inspections may require navigating varied environments.
In addition, you will have:
A relevant qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, or a similar field, or be working towards one.
Experience in a building-related trade, with competence in processing and inspecting building consents (NCAS Level R3 is desirable).
A full, clean NZ driver’s license.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new systems.
